What would you like in your omelette, Mr. Anderson?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 11:00 pm

I think Mlitiagrl will probably post more about that and various goings-on over the past few days. I will have more to say about this weekend when I am not so tired.

What I really want to say right now is that I just noticed that the stuffed bunnies are mating again!

Beer Falling Softly on Green Snow

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 11:02 pm

Well, I made it home after gaming, although at one point I had to use the trick I learned from Larry (shifting into first to avoid getting stuck on a hill). Actually, there were about three moments when I thought I was going to be stuck on a hill.

I hope those damn plows rattle and scrape their way through to wake me up at 4 AM. Otherwise, I will have to call in tomorrow. As it is, I strongly suspect that I will be single-handedly running my department since the only other person expected to show at all lives out in the middle of nowhere where snow plows do not venture.

St. Patrick’s Day snow is messy and slushy-slick.

Repentance for a pre-St. Patrick’s Day sort of pinch

Chobits

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 5:35 pm

I watched some of the (anime) series a while back and thought it was OK. Cute, but a bit repetitive and the plot seemed very slow to unfold.

This week, I read the first 6 vols. of the manga, which is more compressed and interesting. It is much more evident in the manga that the setting is a world where humans’ relationships with human-like machines (“persocoms”) are replacing relationships with other human beings. All sorts of nuances are hashed out in the manga. Humans aren’t satisfied because they can’t be perfectly beautiful, smart, and unselfish like the persocoms. Persocoms aren’t satisfied because they can’t fulfill the needs of their owners as completely as other humans can, nor can they be their social equals.

It’s deeply disturbing and thought-provoking.

Helpful Reminder: Beware the Ides of March!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 9:50 am

And the ideas of March, for that matter.

It probably doesn’t really matter for plebs. However, if you are an ambitious head of state, make sure that Brutus has your back. You can always trust Brutus.

I am in a class at work today, but it has been slow so far. The instructor seems to be having a lot of problems. Maybe I will just read the book.

Up

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 7:56 am

I am totally ready to face the work week– I just had a really satisfying weekend. It seems like I wasn’t home for much of it, but I actually *was* at home most of the day on Saturday.

I spent a couple of hours on Saturday making broccoli strudel and rigatoni with cheese– most of the rigatoni is going to be reheated during the week because I simply made too much food for two people. But the broccoli strudel was devoured and it is something I will definitely make again. I should really have more people over one weekend and just spend 2-5 hours cooking new things for them. I would enjoy it and people seem to be game for experimentation.

Perhaps after things settle down a bit. Next weekend is going to be busy and I will *not* be home and for some reason, I think the month of April is going to have some degree of madness. We shall see.

Other things when I have money and time:

1) I really need to upgrade my computer before I do anything else. I think this will be accomplished before the end of May, perhaps when tax return is received.

2) And yoga. I keep talking about this and I think I even know *where* I want to go to do the organized yoga classes (I would never stick to it if I depended on doing it at home, alone). Buying a monthly pass or a pass for x months would be a good idea because optimallisa would like to be doing yoga about 3-4 times per week and maybe not always on the same days. Must encourge defaultlisa to follow suit.

More factors playing into freetime fun and activities:

1) Gaming schedule is sort of up in the air for the moment since we are not sure when the Eberron game will run henceforth and how many people will be able to participate at a set time.

2) The chelovyek has a new, earlier work schedule starting this week– which is kind of unbelievable still– I think it will be a few weeks before I really believe it and figure out how things work. I think it is a thing that will make him happier, though– as well as friends and family who like to see him. It is exciting!

How to Find the Gamers at Work:

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 11:20 am

Go to the break area and pull out your PHB to look something up. All sorts of random people will suddenly start talking to you. I figure a lot of them work in I/S– seems like gamers are few and far-between in my division.

Alice, I bought an expensive toy for O-Rork last night. So he doesn’t have a 20 STR anymore. I am excited!

Ergonomics (and Buttocks)

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 4:15 pm

The ergonomics team (well, a guy from ergonomics) made the measurements today for my new desk. Adjustments should be made in the next week or so. It will have to be lowered about three inches. I made my own adjustments to my workspace this afternoon so that I can start using the keyboard tray under my desk. It is much more comfortable right now than typing on the desktop, which is way too high. I am sitting decidedly lower now (my buttocks* are closer to the ground) since this is the most ergonomic position for my legs and knees.

I hope this helps my back. I have been doing my exercises and it has been feeling much better, but I have noticed that it is stiffer and sorer while I am at work.

* Since the Golden Buttocks episode last weekend, I have decided to use the word “buttocks” more frequently in conversation. For those who weren’t there, Alice and I were talking while packing some things last weekend and I packed a heavy golden torso which, I noted, had buttocks. I suggested that maybe I should label the box “Golden Buttocks.” This was considerably amusing to the two of us.

Just A Housekeeping Note

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 9:09 pm

For some reason, I am not automatically being notified when someone who is not on my Friends list posts to my blog, so I found a few screened comments (both by Inle) today and unscreened them. Sorry that I did not notice them sooner. I will try to look out for those little tell-tale “0 Comments” indicators. I can only see and unscreen the comments if I am logged in as myself and am looking through my journal entries. I thought LJ was supposed to send me an e-mail, but I haven’t been receiving those, so maybe I should look at my settings again.
