Just quiz me

You scored as Cultural Creative. Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

Lesser Restoration, anyone?

Our caravan of 6 set out to collect the myrrh yesterday morning and on the way, we happened to drop by the Bristol Renaissance Faire. It was my second year going to this particular Faire and I had high hopes of cinnamon nuts and a significant amount of trampoline bungie jumping.

Oh, yes– and I was looking forward to the entertainment. There was plenty of entertainment at the Faire and we were able to see: the Mudshow, the entrance of the Queen(e), and MooNiE and Broon (separately and together). Unfortunately, we were not able to catch the Minstrels of Mayhem this trip.

I cut the trip short for myself and PhysOrg, though. Either it was 95 degrees out, or someone targeted me with a CON-damaging spell. I’m not sure which. Within about 2 minutes, I went from being completely fine to being completely blind and hoping that I would not actually die at the Faire. This was me almost passing out. I was somehow moved onto a first aid cart and hauled away and someone applied a cold towel to my head/shoulders. After that, I could see people again.

I recovered after a bit and was perfectly fine for a while (drinking plenty of water, sitting down), but had more side effects an hour or two later. The first aid people threatened to send me to the hospital if they saw me again, so PhysOrg transported me away.

Apparently, the spell had a range of effect because I was fine once I was removed from the Faire. Maybe PhysOrg has some kind of magic of his own. We delivered the myrrh on schedule and had dinner. Dinner was a very coordinated, shared affair– except that we ordered too much salad. We will do better on this front next time.

Whatever happened to Saturday night?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 12:44 pm

Or Thursday night, for that matter?

Gamery is up in the air at the moment as schedules are changing and such.

However, we have made plans to start a Thursday night pirate theme game which should be lots of fun. PhysOrg is going to run. I am going to play a bard for the first time (i.e. sexy, tambourine-playing pirate gypsy), so that should be w00tilici0us.

Saturday night (when we have our usual people assembled) we will figure out Saturday nights.

I am going cold turkey this morning, if you know what I mean. Please be patient with me if I am a little crabby. It is for the best.

Other weekend goings-on

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 12:15 pm
  • I held a baby for the first time in many, many years. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. I think I could successfully do that again sometime.
  • Still mostly failing to pack, but I will probably do some of that later this week.
  • Gaming and new tiny fish!
  • Received report from family and a friend in Florida that their first hurricane of the season did not result in much damage.
  • I had a couple of small revelations while interacting with various people this weekend– nothing that would mean much to anyone else, but little bits that are helping me understand some things.

    (Edit)

  • Oh, I also read a bunch of Questionable Content this weekend. This comic works for me for a number of reasons, but I think the #1 reason is Faye. There is a certain amount of “transplanted Southerner” and a certain amount of unabashed smartass in her that I am totally buying into and digging. Oh, and she’s sassy. Extra points.

Happy 50th Birthday, Robbie!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michael @ 11:31 am

According to IMDB, Robbie the Robot was born on July 1, 1955– which means that he recently celebrated his 50th birthday!

I don’t think any of us were aware of that fact when we watched Forbidden Planet this weekend, but it works as a follow-up note and a segway into the promised report about the 2nd day of the recent Film Fest (last Friday, the 8th).

We viewed:
Metropolis (Special pop quiz for extra credit: What is the mediator between Head and Hands?)
Forbidden Planet (Now with a complete, restored wardrobe of mini-skirts!)
Doctor Who: Remembrance of the Daleks– 4 episodes interspersed between the movies (We <3 Ace!)
MST3K: Space Mutiny (Scream, then calmly exit to your left)
Galaxy Quest (Who needs reality shows when you can be a red shirt in real life?!)

The only movie I clearly remembered seeing before was Forbidden Planet. I vaguely thought I had seen Galaxy Quest and the Doctor Who episode before also, but the details must have sifted into remote corners of my memory, like so many things seem to do.

It was a fun afternoon/evening– much thanks to Artie and MrGuff for driving down and entertaining us and to the residents of the House of Luscher for hosting the film fest this year!
