Someone refered to me (or in my general direction) as a “reality check” the other day.
It’s a flip-sided sort of phrase. A reality check can be a good thing if you’re trying to steer the course, but it sometimes has an abrupt, unpleasant, discordant manner. We don’t always want a reality check because it reminds us that we are not at the level we want to be. We still have hard work ahead.
Rather than casting doubt on your aspirations, a reality check should help you succeed by keeping you grounded and focused.
I can embrace all of these aspects of “reality check.” I think of it as a compliment, even if I don’t always live up to this ideal for myself.
Yo, we still have hard work ahead. There, I’ve said it.
