I’m not even sure which sausage won the race …

The Brewers won their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates today, 11-6. Michael and I were in Miller Park for the game, sitting on the left field side on the second level. We had a blast. The view from our seats was great and I had the opportunity to test the digital zoom on my camera. I was pleased with the results!

Push and Shove, Trample the Fallen!

Filed under: Uncategorized — lisa @ 7:47 pm

The gates opened at 10 this morning for the first day of the Bristol Renaissance Faire, which runs through Labor Day.  The crowd and the Faire actors who performed the opening ceremonies chanted “Push and shove, trample the fallen!” as the large group of Faire-goers began to move into the grounds.

There was shopping, there were shows.  Our group of friends saw authentic elephant rump and played with devil sticks.  Michael and I ate slices of frozen cheesecake on a stick, dipped in chocolate.  I am pretty sure the chocolate-covered cheesecake was *not* period, but Ren Faire is an amalgam of things old and new, fantastic and farsical.  Above all else, it strives to be entertaining.

Here are some photos from the day.  I bought a new maroon apple hat!

Independence Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — lisa @ 9:45 pm

I slept in until 9:30 this morning and headed to the gym around 10:30.  We didn’t have any morning plans, so we took it easy (apart from dishes, laundry, and cleaning litterboxes).  I picked up a cherry pie and chocolate cookies (for today’s celebration) at LMNOPies on the way back from the gym.  I was impressed that they were open until 2 on a holiday.

I had been wanting some new music for the gym and the daily commute, so I ordered and downloaded some selections after I got home from the gym and the bakery.

Michael, Joe and I headed out to Oconomowoc around 1:30.  We spent most of the afternoon and early evening with relatives from their mother’s side of the family, some of whom I had met before and some of whom I hadn’t.  Bill and Carol, the hosts of the get-together, live on the lakefront and they have a nice landscaped garden behind their house that goes down to a dock with a pontoon boat, a paddleboat (which is a hit with their grandkids), canoes and the like.

We had a good time, watched Andrew and Sylvie enjoy the water for a bit (Michael had brought his swimsuit and helped Althea in the water with the kids), went out on the pontoon boat around the lake, had a meal and dessert and socialized.  It was a nice way to spend the day.  So far, we have managed to completely avoid watching fireworks this year, although that was not really the intention.

We will be up early tomorrow.  We’re planning to be in Bristol by 10 for the opening ceremonies of the Renaissance Faire.  I haven’t been to the opening day before, so it will be interesting and new.

What are your plans for the holiday weekend?

I’m off on Friday.  A guy is coming out to look at our basement (there was some minor flooding in our basement back in June when we had the explosions of lakes and moderate deluge conditions).  At some point, we are heading out to a celebration in Oconomowoc to spend time with Michael’s family.

On Saturday we plan to attend the opening ceremonies (and opening day) of the Bristol Renaissance Faire.

On Sunday we have tickets for a Brewers game.  We’ll probably take time for a slow breakfast before heading out of town for that.
