Tomato production starts rolling

Filed under: Uncategorized — lisa @ 8:17 pm

A few (finally) ripe tomatoes, plus fresh basil from the garden, plus fresh garlic and onion (not from the garden), plus olive oil, salt and pepper, equals a small batch of tomato sauce.  Since the guys got back from Jack’s before dinner, we ended up ordering pizza, so I did not have a chance to try my sauce.  However, it should make dinner a snap tomorrow night.

It looks like the majority of the garden tomatoes will be ripening later on.  We’ve had a few handfuls of cherry tomatoes now, but the bigger tomatoes are taking their time.  With my luck, they will all ripen at once and I will need the crockpot to handle the volume of sauce being made.  Perhaps there will be more than one crockpot-sized batch.

A tiny 2-cup saucepan was sufficient on this first round.

Change of Plans

Well, I had a change of plans this weekend and did not go on the float trip.

It doesn’t seem like the summer has been *that* busy, but then I look back at it and see that we’ve had people over 4-5 days of the week for months, we’ve scheduled a lot of our errands and couple (fun) times for Saturday (when we usually don’t have people over), and we’ve had some general low-level life stress to handle (my job becoming more demanding, Michael looking for a job after his company was sold this Spring).

Sometimes it is good to take a short break, even if it means missing out on something fun.  Spending calm time alone has always been restoring for me when I feel overwhelmed.  There will be more social fun before the summer is over, anyway!
