For those who will be needing a hotel room in Madison for October 9th and/or 10th, I have arranged for a block of 10 standard rooms at the Country** Inn and Suites on Monona Drive (phone # 608-221-0055). It’s one of the closer hotels to the wedding venue. The rate per night they gave me is $128. This rate (and the room availability) is good through September 9th and you will need to specify that you are reserving a room for the Tew/Babler wedding.

We will have Joe staying with us at the house, I imagine (Best Man and college student privileges), and that’s about all we can handle as we will need room and privacy for wedding prep that weekend.

** Thanks for catching my mistake, Mom :-)

  • Google Voice

As an FYI I have gotten my invite to Google Voice. I have a Google Voice number, but I’m hoping to port my current number over to GV as soon as they allow it. So hopefully you won’t have to update your contacts.

  • Harry Potter

Michael Posted on July 17th, 2009 No comments

Sweetie and I went and saw the newest Harry Potter film last night.  I haven’t read the books, but I have spent enough time around people who like to talk about it that there were no mysteries in store for me.  At some point I would like to nab copies of the audiobook, but at $60 a pop, I don’t feel like it’s a worthwhile investment right now.  I think we both enjoyed the movie, like the others you can see where sacrifices were made to translate it from a book to a 2 hour movie, but overall its quite enjoyable and there’s no good reason you won’t like it if you liked the others.

  • Off to Bristol

We’re heading out to the Bristol Renaissance Faire this Saturday.  I shall attempt to goad someone into hauling a camera around with what to take photographs.  My outfit could stand to be washed I think, and I’m not planning on wearing the vest this year.  We need to get Lisa a nice outfit (I’m thinking warrior princess).  Maybe next year when we’re not paying for a wedding.  If anyone is interested in meeting up with us, drop me a note and I’ll try to get your our schedule info.

  • Summer Dinner

I have popped a modified version of Dreena Burton’s Chickpea Curry Casserole into the oven, along with breaded “Sunny Paris” seasoned chicken. Rice is cooking on the stove top. I love having time to cook.

  • 3 Months

Michael Posted on July 10th, 2009 No comments

We are officially 3 months out.  No panicking yet.

On Wednesday night we got a chance to eat dinner with Julie and Kevin (my Aunt and Uncle), along with their soon-to-be-adopted foster son Spencer.  Spencer is an incredibly cute kid, and it was fun to get to meet him finally.  During dinner Julie and Kevin were nice enough to share some of their wedding/marriage experiences with us.  They had some good insights to share (and lessons learned from experience).  It was really nice to spend time with our Californians and we’re looking forward to seeing them at the wedding.

Here’s a recent pic from when Lisa’s parents visited.

  • Movie Night 07/07: A Boy and His Dog

Michael Posted on July 8th, 2009 No comments

So last night we watched “A Boy and His Dog“.  It wasn’t until after watching the film that I learned of the popular tag line for this film (used in the trailers) “A rather kinky tale of survival”.  An accurate description of the film, I feel.  I think everyone agreed that it was a unique experience and worth the viewing.  And it has a happy ending.
